Valentine’s is for Men Also

Valentine’s Day is so close I decided to do the ladies’ version today.

I once mentioned on Twitter that men were hard to figure out. In some respects they are. However, especially for Valentine’s Day, this is not difficult. @Cowjon responded, “Julie, you’re over thinking this. The way to a man’s heart is his stomach…and just a little south.”

And that’s what I’m going to dwell on today, although I will try to keep it semi-tame.

If your guy isn’t really interested in sex, then find other ways to let him know how much you love him.

He probably eats out a lot. Taking him out to dinner isn’t that big a deal. The problem with cooking a really nice meal, though, is he may just want to sleep afterwards. You may be to the point in your relationship that’s a good thing. Be careful what you cook. Make sure it’s something he likes and won’t have a reaction to. This is probably not the right time to try out that new fugu fish recipe. If you decide to, check on the health and life insurance first.

Bake his favorite dessert. Make cookies with letters in icing and spell out something special. Send I love You cookies to work with him for a while and then surprise him at other times.

Men like to be reminded they are loved and appreciated also.

Let him relax. Rent a movie you will both enjoy. Snuggle up on the couch after dinner and just enjoy quiet time with him.

Pay someone to come in and fix something he’s been dreading doing.

Give him a back rub. Sit at his feet and soak them in warm water then rub them.

Send him flowers at work. Even the manliest man will like showing off how much his gal loves him. Yes, he might take some ribbing for it, but they are probably wishing they had someone like he does.

Hide love notes around the house so he’ll find them not only on Valentine’s Day but long after. But a box of the kids valentines if you want and either send him a love note.

Give him a box of IOUs. Up to you what you want to owe him. Let him turn them in when the mood strikes.

Get a glamour shot done so he has a special picture to carry with him.

Men love soft skin. Either go to a spa and get waxed and massaged so your skin is soft as silk or do it yourself at home. A bottle of Nair and some good lotion does wonders. Spend some extra time in the bath exfoliating your skin and soaking in some good skin softener. Maybe you can even set up a romantic bath and ask him to wash your back.

Even though your skin is smooth and soft, ask him to rub some lotion on your back or legs. Get lotion that tastes good. Figure it out.

Clean the house really well so there is nothing to distract y’all. Ask the in-laws to watch the kids.

Meet him at the door in something new and exciting…or nothing. Make sure a) the kids are gone b) there’s no chance your in-laws are going to stop in for a surprise visit c) you don’t have a repairman scheduled. You’re husband or boyfriend probably wouldn’t find that amusing or believe you were waiting for him.

Give him a fantasy date. Dress up in something sexy and change your looks. Let him pick you up and “seduce” you. Just make sure it’s in a place where he might not actually have to fight for you. While that might be exciting, it most likely won’t be his idea of a good time.

I have a friend who has red hair. She also has a blonde wig her husband loves. He asks her frequently if she will wear it to bed. “No way. If I have to sleep with the same person, why do you get to sleep with someone different?”

It’s your call.

Rent a room. Go out to dinner and then have things set up for a romantic evening in the room away from the kids. I hate to break this to you, but aside from great sex, he will probably enjoy being away from whatever needs to be fixed at the house and breaking up fights between the kids.

Whether you’re in a room or at home have some sparkling wine or champagne handy. Unchilled. Dribbled on the body and licked off is…interesting. The sensation of the bubbles, plus your tongue is very sensual. You can come up with other ideas.

Pop Rocks. Put a few on your tongue and drag it across his skin. Or you can use the fizzy candy that fizzes in water.

Put a menthol throat lozenge in your mouth and then blow across the moist skin. There is a numbing action in the lozenge that creates a unique sensation.

Do some studying and learn the “hot spots” if you don’t already know them. Fingers, palm, inside wrist, inside elbow, throat, ears etc. Some men have different areas that are sensitive. The only way to find them is to explore the body slowly from top to bottom. Concentrate on the journey, not the destination. I think it’s called being a tease.

Pick up a copy of Velvet or some similar “man” magazine and read to him. Yes, he buys them for the car articles, but find something a little spicier.

Learn some new “tricks” and surprise him. It’s really kind of amazing what you can learn on the internet.
