The End

I posted a few weeks ago about those three little words. What I didn’t mention was those two little words…the end.

Paladin was done basically, but I knew I had to go back and change some scenes and do a lot more fiddling. Plus, I simply had to get the word count down. It still isn’t where it needs to be, but it’s a heck of a lot closer.

In going back over it, I realize there are some places that need a lot of fine-tuning yet. There are other places I am satisfied. There are even a few places I smile to myself or sniffle even though I know what the scene is bringing.

One of m walk-on characters dies tragically and I know his story will carry on in part in subsequent books, if there are any. What amazes me is how this simple little character became so real. It’s nothing I can take credit for, he walked on fully grown and I just had to take down his story. That is what I love best about writing, when characters take over.

I have to do a lot of finagling and molding to make all the pieces fit, but sometimes the magic happens and it just is.

So, I am tired. I pushed pretty hard this weekend to get the last bits done. I’m contented. I know there’s a lot more work to do, but I’m happy with the story. I’m hopeful.

Kind of like I was in this picture so many years ago when I stopped painting to cuddle my babies.
